Mop Recommendations

We have a (cheap) laminate kitchen floor which seems to be permanently filthy. Is there a good easy-to-use mop that anyone can recommend? Mine is a huge faff to use (always seems to leave the floor sopping wet as well) and I don't have much time to clean most days so I need something I can use quickly. I've heard Bissell mops recommended but the only ones I've seen are pretty pricey and I'm not sure which one is meant to be good.

after puzzling for some time on what mop stands for, read whole OP and realise floor cleaning apparatus. clearly, mine doesn't get used much but it's from homebase with squeezie handle to get water out and a brush on the other side for scrubbing.

I am a famous breaker of mops, usually within the first week as am very heavy handed on them. Vileda mops are the only ones I can't break!

Thanks for responses Mine's a Vileda I think and one of those sponge ones that you squeeze. It doesn't have a brush though, which would be useful so maybe I should try and find one of those.

Watching with interest because I have same problem - permenently grubby wooden floor. Have an Addis mop which also leaves floor very wet and doesn't seem to get it really clean.

Having tried various squeezy sponge things, I went back to an old-fashioned mop and bucket a few years back, and find it much simpler! I've got a Vileda Super Moccio mop which is like strips of j-cloth but with an extra "scrubby" bit at the top. And the bucket with the thing on the top for squishing the wet mop into to squeeze it out. That way you can squeeze out as much water as you want and not have it sopping wet.

I resorted to getting down on my hands and knees like a victorian maid the other day as my mop is so crap.

Knees are killing me but the floor looks fab!

e-mop. No chemicals required, takes a few minutes to do massive floors. can be rinsed under running water as you go along, then washed in machine!

probably not as good as hands and knees, but I now do a quick mop nearly every day, whereas would only wash once or twice a week when it took 20 minutes!

I have a vileda. its fine for the purpose. The sponges are double sided with a soft side (never use) and a more scratchy side which is good for rubbing off stains on the ceramic klitchen floor.

I've also just bought the wooden floor mop head version but not yet used it. We've got solid wood floors and I';m a bit apprehensive soaking it with water !

I always do the utility room with a scrubbing brush as thats where everyone comes into the house and its filthy !

I use the old fashioned type mop and bucket and find that if you use boiling water (i.e. straight out of the kettle) in the bucket the floor dries twice as fast. Also rather than putting any washing detergent in the bucket i spray something on the floor, either flash bleach or Cif 'fizz' spray (whatever i am favouring at the time) brings up my horrible lino floor beautifully.

Ooh, thanks for the replies! I have been known to get down on hands and knees to do it but it does take ages.

The e-mop sounds pretty good, I might give that a try. The boiling water tip is handy too!

Yes, V hot water is a must, dries in no time at all. More hygenic too one would think?

I got a flat mop recently (cheapy one from Sainsbury's - don't do it!) and the concept is great. Being able to chuck the dirty mop bit in the washing machine means at least you're trying to clean the floor with something that's clean...

Sainsbury's one really wasn't worth it, but there are lots of others out there, including the E-mop (which I want to try before shelling out that much) and one by Vildeda.
