paint roller splatter

Hi just about to start painting and i have been given a paint roller.

Havent used one for years as last time paint splattered Everywhere. What did i do wrong ?

Take it slowly so paint is not thrown off by centrafugal force, don't overload roller - and put down plenty of dustsheets.
