What do I do about random ants in kitchen???

I know ants are not horrible vile creatures but I dont want them in my kitchen. I see them every day now, but only ever one at a time. There is one on the little counter between my kitchen and conservatory and one on the floor near the bin (opposite the counter one) but I cant work out where they are coming from. Every now and then I see one go across the floor as well.

We do leave the conservatory & living room doors open in nice weather out into the garden so some bugs getting in is inevitable I am sure but it seems really like they live here. Should I do something? If so, what?

I had this problem last year. I asked my Dad for advice and he recommended
Doff ant powder

I just left a trail on the outside of the doorsteps and in their holes outside and they didn't bother coming in again. Yay!

I got it from our local pound shop.

You can try ant traps like these. Make sure there are no crumbs left on the floor as an alternative food source. We had a few ants in our kitchen a couple of years ago - fast forward a few months and we had a kitchen full of flying ants so worth dealing with now.

thank you - I dont know where their holes are outside though. And I will have to convince DH to let me kill them as he really loves ants. As I said I dont have anything against them myself but I dont want them in my kitchen either.

We use those ant stop things every year and I think we've had about two ants in that time. They seem to work really well.

ant stop bait stations
It was the only thing that worked for me last year

I buy the cheap ant powder from Home & Bargain and it works a treat, also don't use Lemon scented washing-up liquid, it attracts them apparently .

oooh I will sort it ASAP. I sweep/spot clean every day because my kitchen/conservatory floor is always getting mucky again as soon as I have cleaned it, either from the garden or DS chucking food around!

You mean there are little bugger ant scouts out looking for new homes and top nosh? Cheeky buggers!

I'm afraid I go all toxic and use raid on the door frames and windowsills. Have a bit of an ant phobia have been known to spray the entry to our tent as well!
