what's best for dried black coffee stain in very light carpet?

dp: yes

me: did you use any soap? detergent of any form?

dp: no

Not too late. Vanish or any oxy action stuff should shift it. You need to use a towel to lay over to soak up as much of it as you can though.

DH dropped an entire bottle of rioja on our cream carpet, passed out and then came sheepishly up to bed and said 'erm really sorry but you know our new carpet which cost £2K?'

Got that out entirely with Vanish (two full bloody pots and six goes later).

This month's Which? magazine tested carpet cleaners and came to the conclusion that washing up liquid is just as effective as most carpet cleaners.
