How do you get mould/mildew out of car seats and buggies?

We stupidly stored all our old car seats and buggies in our cabin over the winter and they are now covered ... are we able to rescue them or do we need to bin? I hope not as they were not cheap and I would like to be able to recoup some money on them from ebay. Anyone got any ideas?

Won't milton bleach the fabric? Only asking cos I have the same problem!

whatever you do- dont put anything on it which contains elements of bleach! ds's carseat had mouldy mildew spots at the base (inside of fabric) and i put on a tiny bit of bleack with water- acrubbed and they evidently faded but didnt completely get rid. anyway, hung out to dry-very proud. UNTIL i bought it back in, the friggin minute bit of bleach had managed to fad the actual colour of the outer fabric which astounded me- i was so careful in using it sparingly, but it all buggered up and now my perfectly black carseat cover has red bits where the bum goes. tut. looks horrid. oh0 the worst bits i coloured in with perm black marker..not too bad now though..

What kind of car seats? Maxi cosi covers are removable.

it was a maxicosi priori xp- and i removed the cover and washed it by hand in the tub.sorry- by 'mildew on the base'- i meant at the bottom of the carseat cover ('that' base)- which is the white mesh like lining(should've clarified really base really isn't a good term for that!)anyways, i find that maxicosi covers once washed dont look as 'new' prior to washing cos the white-ish nylon wire type things start coming out of the material- iykwim.. anybody else have that problem?

We have a red maxi cosi car seat and I managed to get the mould off it by scrubbing it with Vanish for carpets and upholstery.

Soak them in vinegar and water or so it says in my vinegar book. I haven't tried it yet but we have the same problem. I've hunted for the book to find more precise instructions but its buried somewhere. The gist was to soak straps in hot water and vinegar overnight. Good luck

Yes white vinegar, try and google it maybe mould and vinegar?

I found my book - so you mix 3 tblspoons of white vinegar with 1 tsp of borax and 2 cups of hot water and spray, maybe scrubbing with a soft brush. This is for surfaces rather than clothes but I'm going to soak my stuff overnight anyway and see. I googled and found all kinds of weird tips like polishing shoes with banana skins and cleaning loo with coke etc. - I need to get out more!
