Cleaning white, possibly ceramic, sink, how do you get rid of stains?!

We have a white sink, its not plastic and its not on of those big white old style kitchen sinks.

It also gets really stained, and the bowl is now yellowy red rather than white. Is there any way to get rid of this staining?

kitchen towel, placed in bottom of sink, soaked in bleach, left overnight. miraculously cleaner sink in the morning.
