I want to defrost my freezer, how long will it take (ish)?

If I could do it through the day then put the stuff straight back in there I'll borrow a shelf or 2 in my BIL's at some point this week so it's all done before I expect my next shopping order & I don't need to worry about my fridge growing lumps of frosty icy stuff for another while

Think it depends on the freezer.

I did mine ( the size of a fridge freezer) last year. I would say it took 24 hours to fully defrost, be cleaned and then plugged back in and be cold enough again to put frozen stuff back in.

Hi Lucysmam

I have just finished defrosting our freezer. It's a 3 drawer one and took a good couple of hours. It took loads of bowls of hot water to get it going and, although you might not want to risk it, I hacked at it a bit with a childs knife...

Good luck

Right, I'll leave it until it's a bit emptier towards the end of the week when it's emptier, decant what remains into my BIL's freezer & get cracking on it.

ilovespinach, I have to do that with my fridge anyway, even at it's highest temp it still 'grows' lumps of ice in there & partially freezes what's closest to the back of it

Thanks ladies

Get thyself a hairdrier to blow hot in there.

lucysmam · 07/03/2009 21:27

that's actually not such a bad idea! I don't think

I do it. From a distance.

I've just done mine and took less than 90 mins and I used a wallpaper steamer which came with attachments

Tis the best way to do it imho
