bored of defrosting the freezer - can I just pour hot water on the ice to help it along?

NO!!!

Are you putting bowls of boiling water in there to help it along? Usually only takes an hour or so if you put a few bowls in and keep changing them.

i put boiling water into saucepans and put those in there - the steam always helps things along - and change the water when it gets cool - it is tempting though isnt it?

Our plumber says use a hair drier- it works very fast. You prop it up on a chair near the door, directed into the freezer, and it's usually done in an hour or so. Avoid the knife at all costs! Friend wrote off their freezer last weekend when they went straight through some vital part!
