Help! plug stuck in washbasin

Help help! Our basin has or HAD one of those pop-up plugs, but we took it out because it never popped properly, and took the screw bit off to fiddle with, so there was just the plug bit. My dad has put it in the basin not realising and it is STUCK. I can't prise it out of the hole. This happened once before and I can't remember how I got it out, I can't find anything thin enough to slip between it and the basin hole. Any ideas? I have tried tweezers, a pin and my fingernails so far...

Sink plunger maybe ?

Ooh, hadn't thought of that, we haven't got one but it might be worth a try.

Is it metal? Could you try a magnet? Or the hoover if it has a flex on it? Or maybe plasticine?

This happened to us once, just as we were leaving the house to go on holiday. We came back a fortnight later, and the sink was still full of water.

I can't remember how we fixed it - plunger perhaps. It was definitely a breaking-the-vacuum solution.

All good ideas, but managed to resolve it with Duck tape - just stuck it and pulled! Many thanks to all.
