Why oh why does my fruitbowl always look so manky? (NOT a euphemism)

When I go to other people's houses their fruitbowl are brimming with exotic tempting-looking fare all the time, or so it seems.

My fruitbowl is full for appromoxinately 7 mins after filling then turns into a sorry-looking collection of 2 hard pebbely withered oranges, 1 black banana and the remains of a festering pear. How do people keep their fruitbowls so 1)full without spending £100 per day 2)fresh and appetising?

Are they plastic?
And why do I never remember to buy kiwi fruit? they always look such a good idea in other people's houses.

Come to mine.
It has half gnawed apples in it courtesy of my 2 yr old. ANd dust round the edges.

Don't buy too much at once. Make daily, if not half daily trips to the fruiterers.

don;t keep bananas with your other fruit, they ripen the other fruit way too quick

i have a banana tree, then a bowl for apples, one for tangerines and grapes and soft fruit stay in the fridge

kiwi fruit too much effort , hairy bits and pith...

really ? I may as well give up work then; I won't have time to go if I go to the shop that many times! Is that how people do it?!

I keep my fruit in the fridge, apart from bananas, which live on one of those naff banana hangers. I don't like the idea of fruit all lumped together in a bowl releasing gas and getting overripe and losing freshness by the minute. Does look nice though! I bet those with the amazing fruit bowls don't eat as much of it as you do.

I have only just restarted a fruit bowl after mine looked like yours irchy!

My solution is to keep a small fruit bowl on the table and keep other fruit in the fridge - replenish fruit bowl every day.

Keep bananas separate on a banana tree

Remember that all is not what it seems in other people's houses - we went ot a friend's recently and the DSs were just about to pilfer from the fruit bowl (they always do when we are at other people's houses - when we are at home I have to bribe/cajole/threaten them to eat fruit ) and friend said "I wouldn't eat those if I were you - they're not ripe yet"...

oo that's a good idea Tommy, the small bowl thing - that never even occured to me
