Steam press v traditional iron???

My iron is on it's way out and my ironing board only has 3 legs that work (long story). So should i stick with a traditional iron and ironing board or take the plunge and try a steam press.

I haven't bought an iron or board since i left home 10 years ago so any tips etc would be appreciated as I've hated my impulse argos buys for about 9 and a half years now!!

So who's fab at ironing and got some advise please?!

i think steam generator irons give you all the detail and take less than half of the time/effort of trad irons. presses are bulky and miss detail and you'll need an iron as well probably for some stuff. i kind of adore mine (in the link). you only need tap water in it.

I've got a steam press and love it - so easy to use and because it has a large surface area is very quick to use. I iron everything as soon as it comes out of machine and then hang up to try. Got mine from ebay for about £50.

I've got a phillips steam generator and I love it. It is a revelation compared to my previous steam iron

Thanks all. I just really think the presses look so easy and clever but the majority of people i talk to seem to favour the steam generator option.

I actually hate ironing and so tend to leave it until i have got a hidious amount and then it feels overwhelming so feel like the press would stop that feeling of being stood for hours and the back ache and wrist ache etc.

Will keep thinking as I really haven't got any money to waste so really want to get something i'm happy with and that lasts.

I now have a steam generator iron - had a press at work and I HATED it with a passion.

the steam irons really take the pain out of your hands. because the water is in the base the iron itself is much lighter than trad irons. and because it really shoots out steam, even with a cool plate, you only have to go over any fabric once to get pristine finish. so, much much quicker and easier.

I hate steam irons! Does any know where I can get an "old-fashioned" one? - so much lighter and easier to use on slightly damp clothes.
P.S. I love ironing - contemplation time to myself.
