painting floorboards....

Have floor boards in the entrance/porchy bit of our house. Can't afford to carpet or tile at the moment so i am thinking of buying a pot of floorboard paint. Anyone done this before? Thinking of a dark brown colour as it shouldn't looked marked as quickly as white/light colours. I would appreciate anyones experience of doing this, or maybe suggestions of makes of paint etc., Thanks.

We painted floorboards in the bedroom of our last house with floorboard paint (can't remember brand). We used white and it was down about 4 and 1/2 years before we moved. Apart from in front of wardrobe (it had big drawers on castors) where it marked abit it still looked fab. We don't wear shoes in house though.

I did a room in mid grey - looked great. Used International floor paint. Mixed a dark grey and white.

Thanks for the quick helpful replies. I am so hard up at the moment didn't want to waste the money on ANOTHER diy disaster!!!
Although i like the look of light painted floors i thought the dark would look better here and might be more practial. I am abit addicted to hoovering though, so abit worried about the marks from that on the floor??? Maybe i should stick to a floor mop for the hallway when the floor is done?

I used to hoover mine and it was ok. Then mopped afterwards.

we have painted stairs and I need to repaint every other year. I use farrow and ball floor paint in Drab which is a dark brown with old white edging so it looks like a runner. Just don't try hoovering stones because they scratch and make sure you have the brush down on your hoover.

Thanks you all so much. I will get the farrow and ball i think, in dark brown. Is this special floor paint? Thanks again
