Mushrooms growing in kettle!! Will removal and repeated boiling be enough?

I have just come across this kettle in a rented property and guess it hasn't been used for a while.

Fungusy mushroomy things growing on the element which is flat. Will they die forever if I just wipe them off and boil the kettle a few times? Obviously I don't want to be putting bleach or anything into the kettle

What do you reckon?

if you clean it it'll be okay

I would think that boiling it after a good clean should do the trick.

Why not invite a not so good friend round for a cuppa and see how they fare for a few days before drinking from it yourself??!

I think you need to treat fungus/mouldy stuff with acid - perhaps wash it all off then boil a few times with a good slosh of white vinegar in the water.

I am actually strangely impressed with that. I can't grow anything. Perhaps you could put them in a nice rissotto?

scoop n scrape mushrooms,nice wee dinner

white wine vinegar solution , leave for at least an hour, pref as long as you can. Then boil at leat two kettles' full of water which you discard and hey ho, bob's your mother's brother.

Water boils at 100 degrees C. 100 will blast most known living organisms into oblivion. Several boils, even without anything added should sort you out. Mushrooms are pretty weasly organisms as these things go

Right I have done several boilings with a couple of inches of water. Will now do a couple with a full kettle....

Hmm tricky - boil like crazy and hope you don't all get some weird bug/poisoning/grow fur on your ears or buy a new kettle and bill the landlord...yep that's a tricky one

From the thread title I was tempted to point out that they won't taste too good with repeated boiling and perhaps you should consider a nice garlic butter instead...

And before you all start about me being a tight arsed landlord, I have spent a hours, no - days, and a bloody fortune sorting out the flat after the last tenants fucked off without paying rent for the last month, having broken/stolen/wrecked quite a few items. The letting agency have been worse than useless and I am completely pissed off with the whole thing.

The mushrooms in the kettle will probably tip me over the edge. At least boiling them to buggery might be therapeutic....

Well boil them as therapy then but buy your new tenants a new one!

Honestly, this pains me to say it as I am such a tightwad, but I would have to bin it.

I have just realised.....i NEVER look in my kettle....off to check for imposters.
