Burnt food won't come off pan - any tips?

I popped some corn this morning and overheated the oil so some of the corn burnt onto the pan. Just tried to wash it and it won't come off. Any tips to get it off? Fingers crossed as I only have two pans and this is the big one! TIA.

washing detergent and some water and heat gently on the hob is meant to work

CharCharGabor · 20/02/2009 16:13

Thanks nab. When you say washing detergent, do you mean washing up liquid or washing powder?

And if that doesn't work try some fairy power spray.

mrsmaidamess · 20/02/2009 16:14

Yes I boil the kettle, bung a washing tablet in the pan and let it soak. It gets anyth
ing off.

washing powder for clothes

PuppyMonkey · 20/02/2009 16:32

Yes the washing powder thing works a treat, leave it to soak for a nice long time and then it'll come off easy.

CharCharGabor · 20/02/2009 16:33

Thankyou everyone, I'll get that soaking once tea's done

Bio rather than non bio works better

CharCharGabor · 20/02/2009 18:35

I have it soaking now and it's bio so that's good to know!

I use bleach

JHKE · 20/02/2009 18:40

I boil the pan with a little water and a laundry tablet.. soon gets the stuff off and I have burnt many a pan! I use non bio.

duckyfuzz · 20/02/2009 18:42

yes use bio wash powder, cuts through anything!

scaredoflove · 20/02/2009 18:55

boil cola for a while and leave to stand, have tried it and it works

littleboysblue · 20/02/2009 18:58

I was just about to say the same as scaredoflove. Kim and Aggie do this on How Clean Is Your House and pots and pans come out sparkling!

Sorry about this but ... Fiary Poer Spray. There's nothing my FP doesn't seem to tackle. I'm done with home made brews!

Desiderata · 20/02/2009 19:13

I use bleach, too. It lifts it off in no time.

I'm not remotely concerned about the environmental impact, or leaving the planet in a wholesome condition for my grandchildren.

Fuck 'em.
