having new extension to kitchen so will be family room with sofa/table/tv/kicthen etc - currently have rouch slate tiles which are nightmare to clean , i have two dds (1 and 3)!
am thinking of real wood but am wooried about water from kitchen area and also cleaning things like, say, a dropped yoghurt off the wood, particularly from the small gaps between the planks - also things like wee/ tinned spaghetti etce etc !
otherwise maybe a ceramic tile?
really want it to look nice, be warm ish underfoot but easy to clean !
i would really love to hear your views to help me out!x

we have ceramic tiles in the kitchen and conservatory (open to kitchen). They are lovely in the conservatory where we have underfloor heating, but cold in the kitchen.

Vote for large ceramic tiles here...with underfloor heating (electric versions available from DIY stores).

Ahh so you have learnt not to have black slate tiles too!
Look lovely in the magazines don't they but after muddy dog walked round the table once i am pulling my hair out!

Would go for ceramic in multi coloured style ie not one solid colour and with a slight texture so not too slippy.
