we go through about 1 every 2 years it seems to often.

washing machine bosch (very basic one) bought in 2000 lasted until late 2008 before it went up in smoke.

fridge (can't remember the make) lasted 7 years

freezer (no idea of make) used to be my mum's about 5 -8 years old now

tumble drier is crap, £30 from a friend 5 years ago, still have it but can't say it works it tumbles but doesn't dry!

vacuum cleaner is a Henry - about 5 years old maybe more, still going strong

no television since ours exploded in 1998

no living room carpet, but our rug is about 6 to 8 months old and showing signs of domestic abuse - burns from wood/embers falling out of the stove.

1. The oldest fridge is an AEG from the late 1950's , noisy but runs well.

2. Fridge/freezer - needs replacing after 3 years. Bosch. Leaks, ripped seal, shelves etc all cracked (was like this after 2 years but keep forgetting to replace it ).
3. Hoover - 4 year old Dyson still going strong despite a lot of mud and dog hair.
4. Living room carpet - not an option for us. We're just too messy and clumsy. Wrecked the one in this house (that was new) in less than a year. Replaced with good laminate.
5. Kitchen cupboard doors - last forever, don't they, even if they look dated? Mine must be 30 odd years old.
6. TV - 4 years?

Irons last forever because they are rarely used! Think it is a Phillips.

Washing machine - ours is 3 years old and would expect it to last another 2 years.

We are hard on things in this house and with four children I expect things to be used and I want them to treat everything as a home. I remember my mum going mad and blaming 'the f'ing kids' every time something broke or got damaged when we were growing up so maybe I have intentionally low standards.

Washing machine - think we're on our second one in 10 years, and it's going strong. Bosch.
fridge/frizer - 8 years and counting. Maytag. Also have old Bosch one in use in shed - now at least 12 years old.
Hoover - 8 years and counting. Maytag.
livingroom carpet - don't have.
kitchen cupboard doors - whole kitchen replaced 8 years ago. Can't imagine why they'd want replacing again. Nolte.
television - Replaced 3.5yrs ago. Nothing wrong with old one though - was passed on to family. Now have Pioneer.

Washing machine - bosch currently 3 years old, previous one (smeg) came with the house so was about 6 years old when it died

fridge/freezer - bosch 6 years old doing fine

Hoover - morphy richards 5 years old, have replaced various bits due to wear and tear (heavy handed cleaners)

living room carpet - don't have one

kitchen cupboard doors - about 9 years old, have seen better days (John Lewis)

television - just got a new one (impulse purchase by DH but old one was still fine (8 years old Toshiba?)

iron - 9 years old, barely used (Tefal)

Washing machine - is seven years old and beginning to struggle (LG)

fridge/frizer - freezer is eight and fine. Fridge is seven and bust.

Hoover - also seven - not used much as have hard flooring

kitchen cupboard doors - last house had a three year old kitchen when we moved in and was still fine condition three years later. Current house has a similar style of door so expect c seven years old. Doors fine but units suffering a bit form damp due to dodgy extension.

Washing machine Had if for 5 years still work ok, Dh did a few minor repairs on it

fridge/frizer (beko) was here when we moved 5 years ago was not good then and is still not good now ( I have to defrost the fridge every other week)

Hoover had this one for 2 years (hoover make) had previous on for 7 years (elecrtolux) and passed it on because I wanted bagless but still worked fine!

livingroom carpet was here when we moved and like ohdearwhatamess, we are very clumsy and I feel like setting fire to the thing so I do not have to see it anymore! even with a twice a year "rugdoctor" intervention!

kitchen cupboard doors started peeling off about six month after we moved in, they looked reasonnably new when we moved in though, DH and I suspect they are "faulty", probably B&q value range.

television Had it since before we got married 13 years ago (grundig)

Our toaster sused to always break, no matter what make they were.

And we went through 3 microwavesin 2 years, but they were repleced by Argos each time.

Washing machine - About 6 years now. Was something cheap sold to us by slightly shifty repair man but goes well!
fridge/freezer - Both about 10 years old. One Bosch, one Miele (can't remember which way round)
Hoover - 12 year old Bosch and 6-month old Vax bagless (new toy, am saddo)
livingroom carpet - 14 years. Is vile. Will join OP in carpet arson!
kitchen cupboard doors - Look dated and one was damaged when DH attached a child-proof catch and screw came through to the other side, but otherwise in good nick after 14 years. Magnet's cheapest range.
television - Hitachi, about 5 years. Predecessor lasted 20 years.
Irons - Seem to explode every 4 years or so. Currently a Phillips.

washing machine (AEG)- used a lot - lasted 8yrs
fridge freezer(Bosch) - 9yrs still going strong, although we've had to have 2 sets of new handles on it (!)
Hoover - 6 years so far and no sign of any problems
living room carpet - didn't last long but potty trasining took its toll. That aside, they are pretty long lasting and a decade is perfectly reasonable to expect
kitchen cupboard doors - pretty indefinetely depending on quality (and cheap to replace, compared to new kitchen - dh put new doors on last kitchen which was large and it only came to £300)
television - 20 yrs easily possible

livingroom carpet - Needs changing, but will only be changed when we have cleared the credit card and have saved up to pay for it.
