Do you wash wooden floors?

And if so, how often? If you don't wash them, how do you keep them clean?

My new floor is solid wood (not laminate) with an oiled finish. Would be grateful for help to keep it looking nice.

If an oiled finish, then ecover do a gorgeous smelling floor cleaner with linseed oil in it. Barely damp mop brings up a lovely shine (and also does for our unsealed kitchen tiles). Once a week is, frankly, good going for us but if you're sweeping/hoovering that gets rid of the grit that eventually spoils the finish.

I hoover it probably every other day. Dh thinks I should be washing it instead of hoovering it but I'm worried that this will spoil the finish. I think once a month for a wash plus cleaning up any spills/dirty bits when necessary. He thinks I'm just trying to shirk on the housework

sweep daily (much easier than hoovering IMO)
wet cloth on spills as and when
barely damp mop (we have this one - the head is easy to wring out really well then attach to the pole)
once a week

a specialist wood cleaner like the Ecover one won't damage the finish - I think Method do one too

however well you sweep/hoover the muddy footprints / water spill marks etc need a mop to get off

Method wooden floor wash smells lovely too-all almondy.In our old house I would wash the wooden floors twice a week-surprising how dirty they get,got crappy laminate and tiles here now

Same here, mine gets swept once or twice a day and then mopped once a week with the brown ecover.

Oops - meant once a week in second post Dh thinks I should wash it every day, like I do (usually) with the kitchen floor but I will tell him once a week is enough Will get the Ecover, thanks for recommendation.

Btw, the people who supplied the floor said that hoover was better than sweep as it gets more dirt up and it is dirt that spoils the finish. I also find it a lot quicker.

I had solid wood fitted a year ago and I think my cleaning methods are all wrong.
My floor is definitely not looking as wonderful as it did when first fitted.
I am hoovering and washing once a week. Should I not be hoovering?

I've just had a solid wood floor fitted and the company told me to sweep, not hoover (unless with a Henry type hoover, which we don't have) and very occasionally use barely damp cloth on it. Didn't know it was going to be such a hassle to keep clean. It's constantly covered in tiny muddy cat prints

My floor is oak and fortunately seems to hide all the grubby marks.
