Dry cleaning sofa cushions

My sofa covers are 100% cotton and the label says dry clean only. Do I need to take them to a specialist cleaner or will a high street dry cleaner do? I'm tempted to machine wash them myself because they really are in quite a state but I'm concerned they will shrink and I won't be able to get them back on.

Is dry cleaning them going to be as effective as laundering them? I'm also a bit concerned because only the seat and back cushions are removeable and the covers on the frame of the sofa are fixed and I don't want to end up with a two tone sofa.
