I find if you clean the plates immediately after use (very carefully because they are still hot)it is so much easier than when the stuff is cold, dried on and wedged into the grooves.

You can get special 'george forman sponge cleaners' which come with grooves in them so you can clean easier, but they are about £3 for 2.

I agree with cleaning them whilst they're still warm, but I have gone over to the model with removable plates that you can put in the dishwasher

I turn it off and stick a damp dish cloth in, leave it for awhile, then wipe.

Hot soapy water, any scouring sponge - use both sides, and wring out well - and lots of wiping. Don't drown it ( DH has broken two of ours by getting water everywhere )

Scrape off the worst whilst it's still warm with the scraper thingy they give you.

Then I keep wiping it over with a damp cloth and a non-stick scourer.

I have been known to put a bit of Cillit Bang on mine too, but for goodness sake make sure you've really wiped it all off thoroughly. You don't want Cillit Bang tasting bangers.
