Argh - horrible black mark on my oak table - can anyone help me??

And it's all my fault.

I put a non-stick oven tray (cold, but a bit wet) on it last night while I did some painting and when I picked it up an hour later there were two big balc marks on the table. I think it was the water. I am so pissed off.

Does anyone know if I can get them out - maybe wire wool? It's oiled oak, so no varnish.

Please brighten my day.

Start with something milder than wire wool. I always try a baby wipe - you'd be surprised. Progress to a cream cleaner (very mildly abraisive)then cream cleaner with a scrubing pad (still less abraisive than wire wool) If all that fails go for a very fine grain wool to start with. Once you've got the mark out reoil at least three times over the next few weeks to rebuild the protection from the oil.

I did this recently with metal jug of flowers on my oiled oak table. The scrub pad and cream cleaner got rid of it but left a slightly bleached looking patch that reblended again with the reoiling.

ANTagony, you are a blimmin marvel - a dash of Hob brite and a scratchy sponge and bob's yer uncle.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Glad it worked - don't forget the oil though because when it dries out it will probably look paler than the rest of the table.
