Can anyone suggest which products are good quality? I'm trying to reduce my weekly food spend but my DH is reluctant to try new brands.

Not exactly a weekly item but they do a white wine in a blue bottle which is delish. Their meats are very good, hams etc.

fresh fruit and veg
pastries
cooked meats - all the ones we have had, baked ham, chicken drumsticks etc all lovely
their version of jaffa cakes, biscuits and snacks
apple pies and bakewells are not bad - we have to buy dairy free so they sometimes lack substance iyswim
we use loads of their part-baked baguettes, they are delish.

The ground coffee with the toucan on the packet is great.
The 'specially selected' cheddar here is fantastic although as we're in Ireland they might use a different producer in the uk.

What's the wine called maidemess?

YeToxicHighRoad · 24/01/2009 21:07

Haven't been for a while, but they used to do mini Cornetto-type things, which my DCs loved. And none of the niscuits etc. I bought there had hydrogenated fat.

Thanks everyone. Quite looking forward to going shopping and trying some new things for a bargain now! Bet DH doesn't even notice!

I am addicted to their chocolate chip brioche,it is delicious.

(Sighs sadly at fast expanding waistline)

Most of their stuff is decent quality.

NotQuiteSupermom · 25/01/2009 14:33

Loads of their stuff is great, some of their pasta which is vacumn packed is great and LOADS cheaper than the Asda/ tesco etc but their dried pasta quite expensive.
Dishwasher tablets, nappies good, washing up liquid not so good, cheese, desserts,
The best thing they sell are the baby wet wipes

dustbuster · 25/01/2009 14:38

There is another thread in Food about this Seconding the choc chip brioche (and the expanding waistline1)

spudmasher · 25/01/2009 14:43

The Gin is not bad.

FuriousGeorge · 25/01/2009 21:37

We have bought 3 of the chocolate chip brioche over the weekend.MMMMMMMM!

The jars of curry sauce are good too.I normally make mine from scratch, but these are only 69p an are lovely.

Extra virgin olive oil.
Parmesan.
Tapas snacks.
Oven chips.
Wine.
They do a cheapo Bailey's copy for about £4.99!

I bought a shopping trolley when our local branch opened. Aldi is about a third cheaper than Tesco.
