Who here washes a Rainbow Uniform? What load do you put it in?

A red wash or a lights wash?

Do the colours mix?

And aren't the trousers a bizarre size

DD did her Brownie promise after about 4 weeks, but the Rainbow promise just didn't happen until they realised she was about to leave!

whoops · 23/01/2009 10:03

I will see how she gets on but I'm hoping that she will love it as I used to love Brownies.
May have a quick look on ebay see if I can find a cheaper one on there

DumbledoresGirl · 23/01/2009 10:05

Ebay is always a good place to go for Rainbow/Brownie uniforms as long as you know what size you want. I bought the Rainbow uniform new and a friend gave me some Brownie uniform second hand but I bought some immaculate Brownie trousers on ebay.

whoops · 23/01/2009 10:09

Do their sizes come up big or small?

DumbledoresGirl · 23/01/2009 10:11

Shirts are fairly normal but the trousers are huge. Dd was 6 when she started Rainbows and is quite tall for her age, certainly average or above, and yet the smallest trousers on her still needed taking up in the leg and the waist. I don't think I unpicked the take up in the waist all the time she was wearing it (up to aged 7).

whoops · 23/01/2009 10:14

I'll poss get a t-shirt to start then!
Do they need a tabbard too? I thought I read that somewhere!
Maybe I should wait and see that she likes it first too!

alittlebitshy · 23/01/2009 10:21

no - the tabards are the "old style" uniform. Back when i helped ta Rainbows as a teenager that's what they wore. Now my dd goes (and i am a leader for my sins) it's the funky, bizarrely sized gear.

I'm considering getting dd the zip up cardi/top thing cos it can get a bit chilly. So many of the girls have them......

Does anyone else find that the Rainbows writing/logo cracks withhin a few washes? Or am i being overly brutal when I wash them .

we've run out of space the sew on the badges - (though I've managed to lose the last 2 we got) ......

gonaenodaethat · 23/01/2009 10:33

My DD2 (6) refused to wear then new outfit. I had to order her a tabard.

I like to think of her as retro.

At the end of the day they just need something to sew the badges on.

whoops · 23/01/2009 10:35

Arrgh sewing badges - forgot about that bit
What do the sew badges onto then?

alittlebitshy · 23/01/2009 10:39

lol at retro! WHat was her objection?! Bless her!

Badges sewn onto the tshirt...... looks a bit imo but he ho. I think i still harp back to badges sewn down arms lol.

kando · 23/01/2009 10:42

DG - fortunately we have grey or black trousers with ours - but then they are almost impossible to get if you leave it to the last minute like I did. Navy ones, on the other hand - 10 a penny as no-one wears them!!

See if the Rainbow unit have spares of trousers for her to try on, that's what I did with dd2 as the sizes are strange indeed!

alittlebitshy · 23/01/2009 10:43

Actually it is worth asking if anyone who has left the unit has given the leaders their unifrom to sell/pass on... In some cases they wear them for so short a time (some of our girls came aged 6.5 so only got a few months use)

nailpolish · 23/01/2009 10:44

why do badges ont eh tshirt look ??

my tip is to wundaweb them, not sew

alittlebitshy · 23/01/2009 11:06

wundaweb? i,ve heard of that but never known what it is?

i don't think i meant they look odd, just funny (ha ha) when there's not much t shirt left. cute.

digging self a hole i didn't mean to sit in??

gonaenodaethat · 23/01/2009 11:23

She said she just didn't like it alittlebitshy but I suspect that older DD (now 10) having a tabard when she went to Rainbows had something to do with it.
DH always sings that 'woman in a tabard' song on Rainbows night. He never tires of it.

Surfermum · 23/01/2009 14:06

How do you get the wundaweb off? Do you just iron it again?

I have a pack of it and it says on the back "to remove please see instructions inside" - except I've lost them!
