getting professionals in to clean your carpet

Moved to a house with cream carpet in big bedroom. YIKES!
now grubby, can't afford to replace.

What do I look for in getting someone in to steam clean? Have seen ads for Chem-dry.

What's that about?

And what would a big bedroom carpet cost to have cleaned?

when i moved out of my old house we had the disgustingly dirty cream carpets cleaned by a man with a van mounted cleaning machine, it was brilliant. it took about 1 1/2 hours and dried really quickly (couple of hours rather than 24 hours with traditional carpet cleaner)the carpets looked new. we paid £80 for 2 bedrooms, long landing and flight of stairs. I would def recomend a van mounted one as the machines are much more powerful and suck out all the dirty water.

we have someone that comes once a year (or more if we have an accident!) he cleans our cream carpets so that you wouldn't know we have 2 boys and a cat.

right, just found the one i used in the phone book, his ad just says truck mounted cleaning unit. i think the machine is like a giant vax, so its water and a cleaning soloution, but it is powered by the vans engine so its super powerful. tbh i just found this guy in the phone book, i rang a few at the time and he just sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

You can hire your own carpet cleaners for about £25 for a whole weekend. We've been quite impressed and wouldn't bother paying someone else again.
