Bread machine help!

Mooseheart · 12/01/2009 15:04

Just borrowed my mum's bread making machine, however she's on holiday (she did say I could use it btw!) so I can't ask her this but...

Having just spent ages mixing up a gluten free recipe, I have put all the ingredients into the pan, set it appropriately, and er nothing's happening...

It seems to be getting quite warm though, but the paddles arent moving. There's no noise coming from it.

The timer's going down, the thing's been clicked and double clicked into place.

Is it normal for these things to heat up and sit there before any action starts? It's on a normal setting.

Help would be appreciated, TIA. Am off to do school run so won;t be able to reply for a bit.

one of the settings on my machine "rests" for 20 minutes before it starts, assume it's to warm everything up.

Utterly normal. If I do a basic 4 hour bake in my machine, it does nothing I can detect for about half an hour, then it kneads the bread (knocking sounds) then nothing discernable for about 2.5 hours, then slowly the house fills with the wonderful smell of bread baking!

Thanks everyone, DG I'm pleased you mentioned the 2.5 hour 'doing nothing' period as otherwise no doubt I'd be back here later worrying that it had broken again!

The machine has now stirred into action, making lots of reassuring noise and bashing the dough about nicely.
