We have fleas......help!!!

We have just moved house and we think we have fleas as I keep getting bitten every bloody night. The owners used to have a cat and left their carpet in the living room for us.

What can I do to get rid of them? We have an 11 month old baby so don't really want to spray chemicals everywhere.

buy a steamer, and use it everywhere. The high temperature kills fleas and no chemicals needed, another trick is to put a bowl of water with some liquid soap in each room overnight, the fles will jump in the bowl. I moved into my house and realised we had a terrible flea problem, my dd was only 3 months old so would not use any chemicals. Had to keep steaming my house and furniture and then hoover for about a month but it worked.

Phone the council and get hold of the recommended flea man. Get him in on a Friday and then go away for the weekend. That way, you can use the nasty, but effective chemicals, and not worry about it.

I second steaming everything, I wasn't convinced it would work but as we had a new baby we couldn't do chemicals either. That was back in August and we've not have them return.

Acclaim flea spray (from a vet). Spray everywhere (move furniture, skirting boards etc). Hoover daily for 2 weeks. Then spray again.

I know you dont want to spray but it is the only way to get rid of them if they are all over the house. Get DH to spray one morning and then go away for an evening. The life cycle of a flea can be about 8 months. The eggs can stay dormant and then hatch out quite a while later.

You have my sympathy.
