My boiler has burst!!

I moved in Nov 07. Had ds in Dec 07.
I have finally managed to get everything i need in the house, all nice floors, nice decorations, all my white goods in the kitchen, FINALLY made it a home. I waited untill i had saved before i decorated places like my bedroom, bathroom and the lobby as the decor wasn't too bad. It is all done now though. Lovely.

Yesterday, the council chap at my door (lucky i was in, i should have been at work, but i am off sick with some kind of virus) Downstairs (i am in a flat) has water running down their living room wall, from my house. Where about?! They lifted my kitchen floorboards firstly. Splinters of wood everywhere, nails sticking out, lino ripped, everything was left in the middle of the room. NOTHING!
Moved to the living room, turns out that my back boiler is burst. To drain it, they will come tomorrow and lift my living room floor.
I will need a whole new heating system. New radiators in every room. That means.. all my paint and paper.. ruined.

I could cry!!

I have just called my dad, because i need to lift my laminated floor in the living room for them. Seems like such a waste!!

So now i am back at square one and feeling soo sorry for myself!!

Poor you - are you without heating too? Would the insurance cover any of it?

snoringnightmare · 07/01/2009 15:59

Oh no. So demoralising when you've had the all the hassle of getting the place just right.

Does that mean though that you'll get a brand new heating system free of charge?

PrammieMammy · 07/01/2009 16:00

No heating, no hot water. But they are coming out tomorrow to fix it, i hope.
It is a council house so they will pay for the new heating system. Phew.
I think all the decor will be up to me though.

Yes, thats exactly what my dad said lol, look on the bright side. But it is just a pain! They said my heating system is obsolete, and they can't replace a back boiler anymore.

Can you put a claim in to the council for the cost of redecorating?

Or claim it off your insurance.

I know it doesn't help with the time and effort it will take to redo it, but atleast you wouldn't be out of pocket.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 07/01/2009 16:16

are you insured? cos you really need to claim for the new floorcoverings/wallpaper etc.

PrammieMammy · 07/01/2009 16:17

I don't know if i can, i will look into it. That didn't cross my mind though, so thank you
