Thick curtains?
Clear polythene sheets taped across windows as DIY secondary glazing?
Draught excluders around doors and window frames?
Reduce the number of rooms you use in your house for the time being, and only heat those?
Lots of hot drinks and warming food like stews, soups, casseroles, rice pudding, porridge?
Hot water bottles in bed or electic undet blankets?
Extra jumpers/socks etc?

I have seen that stuff. Our windows dont fit our house either! I have heating on constant at the mo but my house wont reach anymore than 18 degrees and im so cold. How do you heat the rooms upstairs then?

thick heavy curtains
bacofoil behind the radiators
draught excluders around the windows and doors
contact the council about loft insulation and possilbe grants for double glazing
oh and maybe radiators with individual controls

Hi Jenna, is it a council house? If so they ought to send someone round to assess it and see if something is up.

If you've got double glazing it shouldn't be that cold

You can get a grant to have the heating replaced and insulation added if you are on a low income, but not in a council house.

Loft insulation, cavity wall, all that will help.

jennastace111 · 01/02/2009 09:22

hi its housing association they sed they have gone in to partnership with british gas to give all there residents wall insolation and help with getting houses warm but couldnt give a date (prob middle of summer) im just fed up of being cold i dont know if my health visitor would be able to get things moving quicker

Flightattendant9 · 01/02/2009 11:07

I doubt it, but at least next winter you should be better off. If it's a good house I'd wait and see what difference the insulation makes.

My children have been wearing socks and cardis in bed, I don't know if you could do that? I do it as well! I find duvets and blankets is all very well but I still need socks on.

Also I applied for a heating grant last April, and it's only just come through, these things can take ages with all the paperwork etc. I was hoping to get it done last summer but of course there was a problem and they had to wait till January to turn off the heating and leave all the doors open
