I need a rug..............................

quite a big one for the sitting room. Would like a heavy one that doesn't move across the floor! The last one we got was lovely but quite expensive and i don't want to spend too much again. I have dogs and however much i try to stop them they seem to like rolling on it which then makes it grubby and smelly. I thought i would get a cheaper rug and invest in a good portable steam cleaner to keep it fresh.
Anyone seen any nice, inspirational rugs and steam cleaners on offer anywhere!!?????

No idea on rugs but you can get gripper tape to stop them sliding on the floor. Ikea are normally good for cheap rugs which last well but it's hell on earth this time of year!

You can get a sort of web mat to put under rugs to stop them migrating around the floor.

Personally I would go for an old oriental rug - they only look better for dogs. Keep an eye on house clearances and auctions in your area.

You should try Cybergold rug control spray, it's brilliant. I was so concerned about my little ones slipping on my rugs I decided to try this spray and it actually does what it says on the bottle. I bought it from my local carpet retailer but if you call Cybergold they will tell you your local stockist. fantastic product.

Try Ikea - for the rug not the cleaner!

Where in the country are you? If you are anywhere near the M1 Junction 39 on S/W Yorks boundary, I can tell you of an amazing woolen-mill-rug-factory-shop in my village.

OMG read that again just now. My brain is frazzled!

Can I second the Ikea idea instead?

If you're in the South West try Trago Mills.

Phoenox Mill in Clayton West, near Huddersfield/Wakefield/Barnsley is an old woolen mill - from the heyday of the heavy woolen industry in Yorkshire who still make rugs and carpets for other people. They had samples for Next and Heals when I went in. They sell their samples, and the warehouse is full of them. Huge rolls of carpet and all sorts of rugs. Loads of rugs. 100s. I got a 1.4m x 1m woolen rug there last year - thick pile, stripes in cream and shades of wool - that was £140 in Next at the time. £30 to me. If you are in the area, go to J39 of M1. Take A636 towards Denby Dale and keep going. After 10 mins/6 or 7 miles you get to village of Clayton West. Pheonox Mill is on left just before you enter the nect village, Scissett.

(Just for extra designeryness, there is another woolen merchant at the other end of the village who make knitwear for Toast! Their sampel samples are a total bunfight)

wow thanks bike! sounds ace I am going there now with a flask and a camping chair to wait outside till they open

where is the woollen merchant?

BikeRunSki · 11/07/2010 22:09

The folks who make jumpers for Toast are called Cocoon. They don't have a shop, but have samples sales about twice a year, about April and November.
