Smelly armpits in tops/T-shirts - can they be salvaged?

Is there anything I can do to rescue a couple of tops with smelly armpits? They don't actually smell after washing - they seem fine in fact - but after being worn for an hour or so they start to smell sweaty. It seems to happen mainly to stretch cotton tops. Is there anything than can be done to get rid of it, or do I just have to ditch those tops? I've been washing at 40 with non-bio powder.

If you scrub the armpit area with a little washing powder/liquid and boiling water this should kill the bacteria that are lurking in those areas

Or try soaking them in Biotex for an hour or so. That tends to get rid of whiffs.

I've had this before and have sprayed with febreeze or something of that ilk when still a bit damp after washing and it has gone....for a time.

biotex is a good idea though and I'll add that to my shopping list, thanks AMIS

Soaking in a mixture of white vinegar and water can help too.

I just pour neat white vinegar onto the offending armpit and wash as normal - that seems to get rid of the whiff
