Handwash setting on washing machine

I've never used the handwash setting before and just wanted to check that its not likely to ruin my new handwash only top which is part wool.

i use mine and it's fine. the machine hardly spins it kind of sloshes everything about

I use it - otherwise how else would you wash handwash things .
