your parents/ILs - do they have the same hygiene standards as you ?

just curious really,as my parents think I am over zealous in my cleaning - they have different standards I think,maybe it's generational ? I don't spend my life dusting and polishing but I like my house to be reasonably clean and fresh- I just take pride in presenting things nicely..mum and dad seem to not mind things being sticky/greasy/smeary.

my mums house is a midden and regularly attracts rats in countryside.

my is polar opposite. it's no showhome clean. but compared to hers it's impresive.

lol.

mil house is tidy. but now very clean i'd say. her's looks like show home. but when you watch how she cleans things it's a mine of hidden bacteria and disease

im the same - I find my mother house a bit and would never sleep there. Mine is not OTT but I am a bit OCD about cleanliness. I think it is part of the being opposite from your parents thing.

My Mum hoovers the floor to death, plus tidies away cups and plates before you've even finished using them.
When she visits me she always offers to hoover lol

My MIL is probably quite similar to me. Not dirty, but not overly tidy either!

My parents and PILs are probably more meticulous than I am; definitely so. My mum is almost obsessively clean. MIL is also likes there place to be clean and tidy as much as possible.

I do keep our place clean and tidy but I am realistic. I have a 6yo. It is never going to be a show home with a child about.

ds comes home from the ils house stinking of fags with dog hairs caked all over him with a strange musty/dirty smell or stinking of spam and chips.

Its clean enough to look at but isnt very clean iyswim.
My mum, you cannot even move in case you mess something up.

but then she is just plain odd.

my mother's house literally shines and gleams with cleanliness and there is not a speck of dirt or one item out of place - ever

my in-law's house is unhygenic (moulding plates in sink and fridge) smells really unpleasant and there is so much junk crammed (with piles of paper falling over) in to such a tight space that you have to literally vault over the furniture to get anywhere

both are at ridiculously extreme ends of the spectrum in my view

mil has much higher standards
parents have much lower standards

I am obviously just right

I just want to go in and wipe things ! they have some lovely,beautiful things but they are mucky - it just makes me feel sad that they aren't cherished ! M,y dad had a very bohemian aunt who lived in a big house full of interesting stuff but it was filthy and the kitchen hygiene very dubious, so much so that my parents were always anxious about eating there...now I'm thinking they're turning into her !
I love them dearly but...

My Mom is extremely clean and tidy, I haven't inherited that trait at all. MIL is more like us, clean but not that tidy

My Mums house is clean tho not as much as it used to be now she works full time (rahter than jsut lookign after 6 kids ....her words not mine).

Dp's dads house is full of junk and wasnt very clean last time I was there.

Dp keeps our hosue spotless and I'm a messy bugger. Wonder if that says somethig about our childhoods.

my mother is perpetually cleaning but has entire rooms of junk and tat that need sorting badly. she's onl concerned with the visable surfaces... anything under the surface is a mess!

pils house is meticulously tidy but filthy. smells of deep fried dog and so does dp whenever he comes home from there. the bath is black (really... black ) with scum and the carpets have that damp mould smell despite looking cleanish.

my house looks like a warzone 90% of the time but it's clean enough.... we do a tidy and clean of the main rooms every evening... it's let down by the fact that the walls have sticky marks all over them though and the paint isn't washable so i can't scrub at them without it coming off... can't paint til the ceiling in the dining room is re pleastered and there's no sign of nayone coming to do that any time soon... the joys of renting!

all of our houses are fecking showhomes compared to my friends house and her mothers house....... dd cried last time she was at the mothers house and had to use the toilet as the bathroom was so digusting... she's 3! they're so dirty it's actually uncomfortable to be in... you know when you're tensed up trying not to touch any surfaces? makes me feel alot better baout my house when i get home though

MIL has standards beyond what is normal for a human being- Hence I double/super clean mine when she is coming, never feel it is clean enough

My SIL (18 years older than me) is astonishingly neat and tidy. To the point where she picks up crumbs before you've finished eating and restraightens the tassels on her rug if you accidentally ruffle them.

Nightmare when dd was a toddler especially because by the end of the visit SIL would have had lots of wine, get very tiddley, forget herself and then give dd a chocolate icecream to eat.
