How do you get the sick smell out of a cot mattress????????????

Absoltute nightmare this morning. I slept in a little, but not too much to not managed to get to church on time. DS3 was still asleep, so I left him until about 9.20 - just enough time to give him milk, a little breakfas and get his dressed.

I walked into his room and was met with an awful smell - and a DS3 plastered with dried (milky) sick - YUCK. - He was as happy as larry

I had to give him a shower (again a complete nightmare he's terrified of the shower, but our bath just takes too long to run and I would have struggled to get him to lie down to get the sick out of his hair properly) - and was nearly late to church as a result - only got their on time as I sent DS1 across with a note for the church warden/vicar to explain that I was running late (and why) and that I would be there ASAP.

Thankfully the church warden (also a good friend of mine and DS3's godmother) turned up about 2 minutes to 10 to "babysit" the DS's so I was able to leave DS3 half naked (and screaming ).

Anyhow, I digress (just neeeded to get that all off my chest lol).

He was obviously quite dramatically sick (quietly too - I have the monitor so I can hear him and although I heard many weird and wonderful sounds from him and DS2 last night no vomitting sounds). I've cchangd his sheets - but the matress reeks..........

Is there anything i can do to get rid of the smell???

dont put dettol or any other chemicals on it. clean off the mess, then for the smell sprinkle bicarb of soda liberally over it and sponge in/off with clean water only.

there was no mess - thankfully - but it's all dried out now (as I simply didn't have time to strip his cot before getting to church) .

think I've got some bicarb in - will try that later thanks

stock up. tis amazing at getting vom smell out of anything fabric-y. carpets, mattresses, curtains, clothes... you name it.

trust me, ive dealt with a lot

even once its dry. like i say, spinkle the bicarb on liberally, then use clean water and cloth to rub in. it disappears and the smell goes with it.

bicarb is truely astonishing. for dds episode all over her carpet this week, once the worst of it was up we shoved loads of bicarb over it and then closed the door til the next afternoon Smell was completely gone.

Tackled the stain with carpet cleaner - rubbish. then tried a strong solution of bio washing powder, and lots and lots of paper towel to blot it up. It worked thank goodness and carpet looks practically normal now.

thanks - will have to tackle it tomorrow- just looked in the cupboard and I have no bicarb left - so will have to buy some tomorrow - plus it'll give me more time to make sure the mattres is dry again for when he needs to us it

in fact, i have NO IDEA what on earth bicarb is even used for other than sick-smell-removal

Hmm I might try Bicarb for our car - which currently has an Aroma De Baby Vomit smell

Bless you mumsnet, I came specifically to ask this question after DS (2) managed to puke twice in the night (and carried on sleeping!). His room honks!

Off to search for the bicarb now...
