My car smells like a combination of burning rubber & rotten eggs - any ideas? Have taken it to garage & they dont know what's wrong. DS1 has ASD and very sensitive to smells so doesn't even want to go in it now. I'm getting desperate

Is this just after you start the engine and does it disapear after a while?
I think it may be related to the catalytic converter.

Rotten eggs is probably the catalytic converter - how old is your car and have you had your exhaust replaced recently?

Have you checked for the aging yellow lab in boot?

Sorry.

Have you had your brakes worked on recently? Brake dust can smell like burning rubber. I think sulphur is used to harden rubber.

I saw AA man yesterday for burning smell which turned out to be engine, one of coils was faulty. He immediately asked about the rotten egg smell, although I didn't have that. That is apparently usually an electrical problem. Does your car not have a warning light for diagnosis? I would take it to another garage and not drive it far.

yes rotten egg smell, is most likely electrical, sounds like a burnt out fuse or something of that nature, definitely get it checked asap. as for the smell. if you leave a bowl of vinegar in the car overnight once the fault is fixed, the car should be fine the next day.
