oh dear, it could be okay some silks are machine washable

GentleOtter · 26/11/2008 19:10

No. It will be fine.
Iron it on silk setting while it is still wet and hang it up.
If you want to you can rinse it in warm water with a little sugar in the water. It brings back the lustre.

GentleOtter · 26/11/2008 19:11

Sorry - iron it inside out.

SoupDragon · 26/11/2008 19:14

It'll most likely be fine IME. I've washed many things which shouldn't be washed and only a lambswool jumper has ever been ruined.

AbbyMumsnet · 26/11/2008 20:23

I will go get the sugar and iron. Fingers crossed. Am so annoyed at myself - only worn it twice and it's the only remote smart thing I own.

I always wash silk in the machine after having an accident with a silk velvet coat which went all weird after being in the rain.
Once it was uniformly soaked in the sink (despite a heavy duty warning not to get it wet and a stiff brandy on standby) it came up beautifully.

How's the dress?
