Bugger bugger bugger - red wine stain on carpet - advice please

So the cat (soon to be ex cat if I have my way) knocked over a full glass of red wine on our new (bought and fitted in August) cream carpet last night. We put loads of salt down which has soaked loads up but I've just hoovered it and we're left with a lovely big stain

It's in a bit of the carpet that can't be covered up so I'm not sure whether to just buy a new carpet - which we can't afford to do, or claim on our insurance?

I've never claimed before - would our premiums go up and what normally happens?

Soak up every bit you can with masses of paper towel - keep going until no more comes off on paper. This takes patience. Then get out either Vanish carpet mousse/spray or Carpet Power (that Ozzy brand that does Bath Power as well). Keep applying and dabbing off til gone. Pray.
