fellow mn'ers who haven't got much room and store stuff under beds..........

Anyone who hasn't got much room at home, for storage etc., will know that we have to store stuff under our beds. I just wondered how often, truthfully (!) you move all the stuff out and clean under it???? Our house is small so i have to get boxes and store stuff under all the beds, particularly the dcs, it is such a pain having to get it all out, clean the boxes, hoover the floor (& mop as its laminate) and then do the skirting boards etc.,...... I have just done in the girls bedroom and it took ages

I do it more often in DS2s room because he has laminate and a divan. We have the boxes under our bed, plus a carpet, mostly I ignore the fact there might be dust, but truthfully 2-3 times a year at least, maybe more (major full room clean and move furniture round, but not a carpet shampoo). Am hoping to replace with a divan soon. Then will move and clean more often. DS1 has a high-sleeper with a desk & single futon under, and no concept of tidiness and order(he is 11). I don't go in there ...

I thought that the whole point of storing stuff under beds was that it displaced room for dust/mess?

Seriously, I think this has only happened on special occasions - like hunting for mouse droppings, or a mislaid earring

i can grow a good half cm of dust on the old suitaces (ram packed) under my bed.

I clean under the beds and behind the furniture EVERY time I move house!! Isn't that sufficient? After all, if I can't see the dirt, it can't hurt me can it?

Oh, you lot do make me feel better about myself I was stressing i didn't do it enough.......now i am happy

very rarely - but my bed is a frame bed with slats so every now and then I move the mattress over and hoover between the slats to remove the thick layer bit of dust on top of the stored rubbish stuff.

My lovely ds spent the day yesterday sorting all the stuff under his bed and going through the rest of the room, throwing things away and making a pile of recycling....he is 17 He didn't actually clean anything though, he said it would be easier for me to clean it now that he has sorted it all out! He did hoover it though, i hasten to add!!!

I sort it out and clean it exactly as often as I move wardrobes out to clean behind them ... when I move house, when I decide to move the furniture, or when I lose something under there and get an overwhelming sense of how deep the dust is...

My mum bought me rolling underbed storage. 8 boxes to put everything in, and be abel to get it out if i wanted.
But to use them I have to sort under the bed. They may have to go in the loft.

Well, I am having a trauma.
I have worked out that to get to the loft I have to move 6 boxes of books onto the new shelves my mum bought for me. But to get to the shelves I have to move the new underbed boxes and 2 more boxes of random videos/dvd's stuff onto the shelves.
My mum hasn't done me a favbour at all, she's just created a weeks worth of work!

I was feeling quite slatternly, as I v.seldom do this, but then realised that I've only lived here for a year, lived in the house before that for 5 weeks , and the one before that for 2 years, so it has never gotten that bad. We only used to have one bed with storage space underneath (our main bed was a divan with drawers so we moved the whole bed and hoovered = easy), and that was folding sofa/futon bed, so that got hoovered under fairly frequently. In this house we have got 2 king-size beds and a set of bunks with stuff under, and it's only been once every 6 months or so I suppose.
