How to get rid of MICE???????????/

Never had a problem before as we have a cat. However, he has decided to become lazy and is obviously pally with the mice now. We recently discovered fresh mice droppings in our real nappy drawer FGS!!!

Anyway, that's not the worst part. I went to the garage today and they have been having a riot. Loads of stuff has been torn to shreds but worst of all- they have totally destroyed the new buggy seat that we have been storing for dd2. She is still in car seat and we bought a new buggy for her (dc3) so the seat has never been used and I have just had to shell out £50 for a replacement seat pad.

To top it all off- I can't stand mice- am very mouse-phobic!!!!!!!!!!

Arg sympathies. Seal up all visible holes with polyfilla and wire wool mixed together. I hate poison so we use old fashioned traps (not living ones as I can't stand the little blighters and they ALWAYS find a way back). We bait them with peanut butter and then DH disposes of the whole thing.

Can you trap the cat in the garage for a bit to get a cat smell going there?

I wouldn't do the poisin way AT ALL

our local poundshop type thing sells 4 traps for a quid
they are very nippy and both me and dh have nipped a finger in one before and it takes a while to set them but they work fantastically

You could have my cat, there's not a mouse to be seen in my area any more, He's had the lot! He moved on to Rabbits and there's not many of them now either.... we live in the country so there should be gazillions.

My cat used to be great- mice and rabbits! but alas the mice have got brave!

We set traps last night and the one in the garage had gone off and teh mouse had escaped but the cat pulled him out from somewhere later (dead). Oh I can't stand them- it's sending shivers down my back just typing!!!

We tried everything but had to admit defeat when I found mouse poo in DS's cot. Aargh. Called the council, paid £20 and the little sods were dead within 2 days. Felt bad about it, but what can you do?

No smell, BTW, but I did find 2 dead ones in the living room. Poor things.

Can't stand thinking about them running all over the place- all the baby things, toys, work tops etc. (and I'm by no means a clean freak and think we are all OTT for sterilising etc BUT...)

I have to admit I cried when I saw what they had done to the buggy.

Probably doesn't help having 2 toddlers leaving a trail of tasty treats everywhere they go

If you poison them they go outside to find water, so you don't get dead bodies everywhere. Btw, the are incontinent - ie poo and wee all the time.

We've been trapping all summer (caught I think 4 so far, so not great), then the council came and set bait - seemed to be working, but the mouse poo is back again (bait is still down). It's horrible, isn't it - and I'm not phobic about them!

Definitely think that trapping is the way to go if you can make it work - successful trappers: what are your top tips for bait? We've had success with sunflower seeds and chocolate so far, but we need something irresistable!

I feel your pain; we are living under siege here. I live in a big old block of flats and it is INFESTED. We have spent hundreds having holes blocked, poison put down etc, and each time it goes quiet for a week or two, then they find another way in.

I have resigned myself to a life of trying to keep one step ahead of the blighters, one long continual search and destroy mission.

There do seem to be loads around these days.

I can hear the sonic things! Enough to drive me rapidly insane... But you're right, Bella, poison is evil: I lost two kittens to rat poison when living abroad Always swore I'd never use it as a result, and feel ashamed we have done so now...

If you phone environmental health they can send someone out who can put poison down that way you never have to deal with trap victims.

I was going to try the big sonic thingy from Robert Dyas. Does itreally work then?

Or phone your local council and they wil give you the number of people who can help.
