how do you get rid of cooking smells - esp curry?

We really love eating curries, both indian and thai. The problem is that they leave such a lingering smell (esp the indian curries) around our flat, even though:

I close the kitchen door,
open all the windows in flat to get a draught circulating
extractor fan is on
have tried the chefs candle- doesnt work

I would really rather not buy ready made...much prefer to make them at home.

ANY ideas? please....
thankyou

Hmmm I have probs with fish cooking in my small house and burning candles in several rooms plus dropping some lavender oil on doormat and spraying withsmall bottle of water and few drops of lavender iol usually works eventually.

I have an oil burner and find a few drops of peppermint oil do the trick. And open windows.

thanks for the replies. I think Ive thrown my oil burner away...will get one again and try peppermint
pushchair - re: fish cooking, ive read somewhere that boiling up some orange peels with some cloves for a while clears up the smell of fish. I tried it for curry but my husband said it smelt worse than the curry.
