i paid £40 for a professional to do it and that seemed to work

or you could try the rugdoctor, you can rent it from places like sainsburys

bicarb, lemon juice and water in spary bottle, spray sparingly. acts as neutraliser.you can add some essential oil if you want a nicer smell.

Sounds a bit obvious I know, bu tyou can't beat 1001. My DSD threw up all over the carpet. My DP stood there retching (it's his daughter not mine) whilst I cleaned it up. I used 1001 and the next day you couldn't smell it at all. It is great stuff, I always have some in. I have a cream carpet and DP spilt some red wine on it but it got it out. The only thing it has failed on was paint, DP again !

we had this after ds had epic vomiting bug. douse carpet in soda water and leave for a bit (perhaps drink rest of soda with some whisky? ) before carpet shampooing as usual with 1001 or something like it.
don't understand why it worked but it did (same reason i think bicarb of soda does - some weird chemistry thing)
good luck

Thanks for the advice everyone. The lemon juice and bicarb seems to have worked a treat.
