IMO it is easier to do a bit everyday, i tried the once a week approach and found that the day i intended to do it would never happen cause someone would turn up or id have to do something or i just didnt feel like doing a huge clean n that particular day. i do the basics everyday, and try to do ironing in the evening. hoovereing usually a couple of days a week, mopping the same. polishing and dusting once a week. beds once a week, bathrooms once a week. in reality these jobs take minutes but its the thought of doing them that keeps putting me off. but as i said, even if youre working full time, ten minutes when you get home in the evening and you can have the beds done, dusting the next day, bathrooms the next. or if you fancy it, get up half an hour earlier and do it before you go out. dishes and general tidyness is easily achieved if you put things away as soon as theyre done with. otherwise it becomes a chore just to sort through your mail.

I keep on top of kitchen (dishes, counters, papers) everyday, otherwise it's a quick downward spiral to slatterness!

Also laundry - do that as I need to, very few days when I don't put a load on.

Also toys - tidy away most days
Bedrooms - change sheets each week

I (ahem) actually have a cleaner so bathrooms, vaccuuming, dusting, washing floors done once a week by my lovely cleaner

have you checked out the flylady threads?
