Can I rescue this wool blanket??

I made it - hours of blood sweat and tears. Always washed fine in the machine on the wool cycle etc. This time however, I did it on the delicates/silk cycle and it's become harder and smaller - not all the way as it were but it just aint right. I have rewashed it on the wool cycle to see if that helped but alas no.

What can I do if anything and what was it about that cycle that's broken it

Perhaps the delicates/silk cycles runs a bit hotter. it sounds as if it has partially felted.

Sometimes if you soak in cold water and a LOT of fabric conditioner (until the whole thing is a slimy mess), then rinse, you can smooth/stretch the fibres back to something approaching normal before drying flat. You've nothing to lose at this point anyway.

Other than that, boil wash it and make felt toys and flowers! You must be gutted though ... I have had many laundry disasters myself, so sympathies.
