Morning TMH and Greyskull.

Kids are back at school, I have a little bit of work to do from home but am otherwise on my own till 3 so need to get some FLYing done.

I plan to tackle the ironing in front of This Morning I don't iron much so it tends to get put off till it's worth doing and now seem to have quite a basket load!

The rest if the house is OKish so I'll do my usual routines to keep on top of things. I can probably get away without doing the mission as I'm on top of those areas

I'm planning our annual Children In Need party so need to order some bits and pieces for that too.

wendylanguage · 04/11/2008 10:11

Morning everyone, I am saying hi before heading off to decorate DS's birthday cake #2 (one for party on Sunday, birthday today, with family round!) and popping to buy a few things we need. DH off work for DS's birthday so he is playing with DD this morning.

Just deciding where to go this afternoon with DS for birthday - it is drizzling and grey here which limits our option somewhat.

Have a good day all and happy flying

Ruby I think the key is too make it accessable and also to offer something different.

Why is it so good? What makes it so special?

DS1 goes to Preschool at the local school, as that was all that was local to me, the only other alternative was a monti one 9 miles away.

Saying that the one he is at is excellent and the only thing I would like is the option of longer hours (and being able to pay from them)

OP posts:
AnneOfAvonlea · 04/11/2008 13:26

Ruby,

Would suggest

  • that they offer a lunch club if possible. They can charge a bit more for that and some parents would be keen to have longer than the 2.5 hours the govt provide.
  • that some flyers are put in the book bags of the local schools advertising the fact they have places available.
  • Get them onto google maps, if not already.
  • Offer to help 1 session of the library baby song time or whatever in return for giving out flyers to all of the parents with babies.
  • Ditto for local mother and toddler groups.
bythepowerofgreyskull · 04/11/2008 13:33

Hi Ruby,
our little playgroup is having similar problems, it is on the primary school site - but the primary school nursery class has started taking in children termly so they are all jumping ship the term after they are 3.

We have discussed them changing the midweek session from a 2year old with parents session to a mother and Baby group, therefore attracting parents much much earlier.

Also having the option of a lunch club/breakfast club.

opening during school holidays/ using the building during school holidays for Holiday clubs that could be charged at a more commercial rate.

We have found that alot more mothers in our area have been going back to work and therefore needing to pay for commercial nursery times.

I think we need to address the parent helper.cleaner issue that we have.. most of the parents who move at 3 years old move because they don't want to do these things any more.

Sorry if these aren't any use - it is just what we are going through at the mo.

Ruby - get parental consent and get pictures with happy kids in. Will be much better.

TheMadHouse · 04/11/2008 15:46

Ruby I think that publicity is what you need, contact the local rag - you used to be in marketing. Draw up a press release. DO something fabby or even just a sponcered silence or sing for children in need and use that for the publicity.

Website will be great - are you guys listed in the childrens information service

Advert in the local NCT magazine - doesnt cost a bundle

Local Heath Visitors

Advertise with Homestart

Make the Nappy thing your USP

You go girl.

I am about to be brave and do some canvass' with handprints on for the boys walls with them.

I am going to run the bath first, then strip them and crack on

Easy dinner tonight - Fishcakes, Wedges and Mushy peas

Can not do the car as it is still heshing down

Ruby - write the article yourself, take a picture and email it to local newspaper. If they have a quiet week you'll be used as a filler . also, get in touch with army services and see if there is a way to engage with all new families posted there - they will have children of pre-school age.

TheMadHouse · 04/11/2008 17:16

Ruby Wish I had read it before I did the painting, but we only had one mark on the wall which came off lovley.

I now have three lovley canvass' 1 for each of their rooms and one for my mum

I agree do the press release yourself - just a page of blurb focuss on all the positives and loads on the children not needing to be out of nappys. You could even offer sessional care ie one day a week.

I also think that army services would be a good idea. Maybe you need to focus on the 18months to 3 year and leave the 3+ to the school.

So boys are bathed and in PJ's
Their dinner is in

I am pooped and have a headache
