Getting blood off sheets?

Sorry - I know it's not nice but DH has had an operation and the wound site has leaked during the night.

I've done 2 boil washes with detergent and vanish but it's still stained. It's a sateen egyptian cotton sheet.

Any ideas gratefully received (the sheet is white so maybe I could bleach it?)

Napisan or OxiClean would work

Sometimes a very hot wash can seal the stain in,it is better to wash at a lower temperature.Use a bio stain remover on the actual bloody bit (something like vanish stick)and add ecover bleach to the wash,a generous cupful.Wash at 50 and see how you go.May take a coupleof washes now it has been cooked in!

Dish liquid i find on AF overflow on sheets/undies/clothes works a treat tho after 2 boil washes they might be there to stay

EEK - Now you mention it, I've heard that about 'cooking' stains.

I have some nappy soak in the house so will try that now.

Thank-you.

ace laundry bleach works magic.... and you watch the stain fizz away before your very eyes...

BUT im pretty sure a hpot wash will have set the stain in forever

the key with blood is cold (and of caught while still wet you can get it out with cold water alone)

MatNanPlus · 02/11/2008 21:33

I had great success the other week with old undies and dish liquid NannyL much to my surprise.

lazyhen · 02/11/2008 21:36

What do you mean 'dish liquid' - as in washing up liquid?

If it happens again.... (my DH and DS have regular nose bleeds) soak in cold water for as long as you can, then add vanish and put through the wash. Works for me.

Try hanging out on the line for a few days if all else fails.

MatNanPlus · 03/11/2008 13:14

Yes LazyHen just common washing up liquid, works a treat and always available, 1 liquid, many uses.

lazyhen · 03/11/2008 18:50

Interesting - I soaked it in nappy soak last night then on a 50 degree wash with laundry detergent and it's worked OK. You can still see it but only if you're looking for it.

Thank-you for all tips! DH isn't planning on having another op so hopefully this won't happen again!

glad it is sorted.

Don't know if you have Stain Devil there but there is one for removing blood. Works brilliantly.
