No room for a laundry basket-should I make pretty drawstring bags and hang on the back of bedroom doors?

It just feels so [bleurgh] to have dirty laundry in bedrooms for some reason, but have nowhere else to store it in the new house-as long as they are pretty could I get away with it

i have some,and i love them, i bought them for £3 each from ebay, they are lovely, pink and white polka dot one for dd and a blue and white polka dot one for ds both with their names embroidered on them.

So it isn't grim to keep laundry in bedrooms? I don't know why I have such a hangup about it-silly woman!

Ours laundry bin is on the landing, which I think is a general MN no-no, but we don;t ahve mnay visitors

no i think its perfectly fine. i even use mine as the dcs swimming bags.
i have a green one also in the bathroom for towels etc...
my house is small, and i hate piles of washing everywhere, so it makes sense to me. especially in winter when i cant do loads of washing, and hang it on the line, so this way i can do one load a day, and not have stuff lay around everywhere iyswim?

That's the prob we have-the new house is tiny, so had to choose between keeping the dryer or the washing basket-I kept both for the interim but am sick of falling over it! Yay, I am so happy now!

We put all dirty clothes in the bathroom in a big laundry basket with a lid. Doesn't everyone do this?!

Nope, bathroom too small-if dd comes in when I am going to the loo she has to stand in the doorway or climb in the bath . It's like living in a london studio apartment!

My SIL made some for the dcs last Christmas - they are lovely and very useful. Maximises the chances of clothes making it into the system, I think...

Sorry, TMI, but you know what I mean-they always want to be in the bathroom when you are.

blimey,my lot leave things on the floor till i nag them to death, when they lob them downstairs,i pick them up and take to garage (where washing machine lives).

in front of machine, are 2 laundry baskets, 1 for lights, 1 for darks, and it amazes me how NO ONE except me can find them.....

dc's have draw string bags.
we have laundry basket on landing - a nice one with a lid and everything - but either they never put stuff anywhere, or if they do put it in bag - i forget to check

Dd is only 4, so wouldn't expect it of her anyway, and no slobby dh to worry about and pick up dirty underwear after, so all is calm re laundry in the paddington house (but not re space, all I ever say nowadays is "I hate this bl**dy house!"

Like KanyedFrot pretty laundry bags would serve no useful purpose in my house. I have a fairly large laundry basket in the bathroom which only I ever put anything in. If I don't collect wasing from my dc's rooms they 'store' it on the floor until such time as they have no more clothes to wear and then they deposit a Mount Everest sized pile of dirty clothes beside the washer!

We have a Large Wooden laundry bin in Our bedroom. The kids drop their stuff in (it's just in the door) and it works for us (we have no room in bathroom which is an odd shape, or the landing (converted bungalow so not much landing) and I wanted it upstairs.

He he, my bedroom is already home to dd's chest of drawers, my chest of drawers, the hoover and one of the many household bookcases, so a laundry bin too may push me over the edge! I hate tiny houses!!!! . Bags coming on really nicely though-patchwork vintage, mmm

i agree tiny houses are awful, if they are not kept relatively tidy, they just look really rubbish!!!

Urgh I know, we have moved from a house which was the floor space of an art gallery, and two floors at that, to a house that is the size of my old bedroom-and the house and I are NOT getting on . Needs must and all that! xx

Oh Paws I sympathise. We downsized a couple of years ago from large (3 floors) beautiful stone house to small red brick ugly job. I sorted and cleared and sorted and cleared before we moved and still had too much stuff. Last straw was on moving day finding the previous occupant had left loads of rubbish in attic and attached brick building. Our front room was 8'x16' which with 3 kids and 2 dogs was a squidge to say least. We have fiddled about downstairs and got reasonable space but upstairs is another story. One bedroom leads to another which leads to huge fights with children, our bedroom is a storeroom as well, and our bathroom is 8'x6' so no room to hide anything. I keep trying to console myself that it's cheaper and warmer (which it is), and that I'll get used to it. Can't say I have yet.

Oh frosty I love you! I keep having such arguments with myself in my head, as this house has quite literally saved us from serious financial straits (I would have had to borrow every month to pay the rent on the old house) and this place I can do out of my own money, but my furniture is tailored to the old house so is big and grand, and I can't get rid of most of it as it belonged to my mum, and can't bear to get rid of it as she only died 6 months ago and it is beautiful. We have huge ugly bits of furniture here too-most of it was undo-able so I could put it down and put in the loft so am getting there-I love you so much for still reconciliing with yours (And it was above an art gallery, so really was the floor space of the art gallery! )

paws , is this 'small house' a temporary arrangement? can you loan yor mums furniture to family/good friends til things change? Can you keeps one special piece of your mums? if not, consider selling them and put the money in a pot and buy some bits that are more suitable to the 'smaller house' and remember that they are gifts from your mum still. what would she want or expect you to do? It's still early days after only 6 months, but maybe give yourself some time (say another 6 months) then down-size your furniture to something more suitable, I'm sure thats what she would want.

That's the weird thing-it is mid temporary-we are here three years. Could always put some in the loft (why didn't I think of doing that?) It is a godsend that this place has a loft , but really couldn't sell it, as the stories behind them don't translate and they are things I couldn't re-buy now-burr elm tables etc. Thanks milkybars for sparking the loft thought though!

my mum got us lovely pillowcases and put a hole through the top of one end, just big enough to fit the hook of a coat hanger through.hung them on our bedroom doors. they were our laundry bags, if it wasnt in the bag it didnt get washed!!!!

regarding your 4 yo being too young, try her!! my ds is 3 and i got him lovely pop up laundry bag of asda.com, he knows thats were his dirty clothes go so all i need to do is empty it every evening. i just told him when it arrived that it was his for his room and that he is to put all his clothes there when he takes them off, he remembers every time. and if something isnt really dirty enough to go in i just take it out when im sorting.
