condenser dryers versus vented ones

I have it in my head that wall-vented tumble dryers are far better than condenser dryers. Am I imagining that?

condenser dryers use more electricity, thats about as much as I know!!

I have a heat pump condensing dryer (John Lewes) and actually they are comparitively fuel efficient.

heat pump ones are very expensive compared to other condensers and vented dryers, they also require a lot more maintainance compared to vented ones like cleaning the dryer fins regularly. vented dryers mostly work quicker too and don't cut out when the drip tray fills up or if not auto cut out, don't spread water all over the floor when they overflow. condensers also pump warm moist air into the room they are in. condensers are good if you have no outside wall to vent through or live in a flat that is difficult to use a vent in

We didn't have the option of wall-vented - BUT, I do wish we'd bought one with a sensor that stops it automatically when clothes are dry. I'm still under or over-drying four years on.

nooooooooooooooooooooooo! sensor dryers are crappola! i had one as a kitchen ornament- it never dried a load of clothes in the 18 months it was lodging with us

I have a condenser as I don't have the option to vent.

I empty the water try after every use that way it doesn't get full.

I empty the fluff filter in the door after each use to.

And clean the other bits when I remember

It takes a little longer than my vented one did but it's better than having washing hanging around for days.

Well I heart my heat pump condensor (with a dry senso and alarm ) I used to use washable and have NO dryer - it was near impossible.

I would never in a million years have another condenser dryer, took an age to dry anything and our electric bills were huge.

Even though my vented dryer is in the garage now and it means going out there in the cold, it is a million times better, should have got one of these in the first place. Dries stuff in ultra quick time, I leave the garage door open and point the vent towards the door.

I agree with bellavita. When our vented dryer packed up we got a condenser. It takes longer and often have to run cycle twice to get stuff dry (1 cycle takes 2.5hrs which is longer than the vented). Secretly hoping this one packs up so I can go back to vented - will have to cut hole in wall though!

I've had both and don't really see a difference in either running time or cost.

The condenser needs to be in or near a room with a fan IMO. we have ours in the utility and switch on the fan in the downstairs WC when we're running it.

The vented thing just drove me potty.

We've got a condensor with a sensor for when the washing is dry. You just tell it how dry you want it - iron, wear, store, air.... and it does the rest. No idea about elec usage though. I remove the fluff each use, but only need to empty the water once in a while. I do worry about the heat it emits though, esp as it's next to the freezer (it blows the air directly onto the side of the freezer). However, all seems fine.
