tbh.. If I was going for an aga I would want a new one.. that would then last me the rest of my life.. now a recon one could be just as good.. but.. unless i was 100% happy with it.. it just wouldn't feel like mine.

If you do get an Aga make sure you have a back upo cooker, we turned our Aga off in March as oil prices were getting very silly and have just turned it on.

Our AGA man says properly reconditioned they are just as good as new.

Ours is so old it was coal fired originally and then converted to oil. It is sitting there now, waiting for me to win the lottery and to decide if I should keep it on oil or convert to gas or back to coal as it was originally. Either way I won the battle with DH to keep it when we renovated so I'm happy.

reconditioned. Ours is apparently ancient, and was converted from solid fuel burning to gas eons ago. As long as it's done properly and you look after it it's fine, and they last for years and years. Brand new they are so expensive.

I bought it as a cancelled order. It's a mains gas, cream 4 oven. I got it for about £1,500 less than a brand new one even though it was brand new and I still got full installation, and full Aga guarantee.

In my last house I had a reconditioned one and that was great as well.

we had a reconditioned one i my old works holiday home

it was an oldfasioned style 4 door one that ran on oil and was cream

it really was just like brand new and you would NEVER have known it wasnt brand spanking new unless told

Works OK, but not as good as a new one -- we spend a lot on annual maintenance. I suspect a new one would be more economical to run.

Switch ours off for 4 months in the summer too.

I would recommend a cream or black reconditioned one as they are classic and don't really date. There is quite a trade in reconditioned AGAs particularly if you want to use it for your heating as well (which isn't advisable due to cost and wastage) as for the reasons in brackets people will be queuing up to sell theirs - according to my Aga Service Engineer.

We have an oil fired Stanley which runs on a timer so best of both worlds, and it does the central heating too.

Love the look of Agas but TBH I think they are overpriced and not very practical.
