first time, my bed, won't go into details.

I have disinfectant, bleach and a little softner.

also 1001 and vanish.

for armed with a scrubbing sponge, what mi should I use - don't want to be doing this again really if I can help it.

currently trying disinfectant & a little softener.

should I do anything else? oh there was a matress protector down but it still reeks.

When the matress gets wet I

Place towel over the damp patch
Run hot iron over the towel until the mattress is dry

The heat from the iron should kill any of the bacteria that cause the smell.

For the smell, sprinkle the mattress with bicarb of soda [sodium bicarbonate] and cover with a towel then make as normal (if you need to use the mattress that night) or just sprinkle with bicarb and leave in a well ventilated room as long as possible. Vac the bicarb off and use. It got the cat wee smell out of the hall carpet that did

A waterproof matress protector is invaluble when you have a little one.

waterproof protector can be invalauable when you have a not quite so little one too

never thought of ironing it off... what a good idea

we do this:

spongy as mucho ut with tissue as poss
'wash' patch with soapy water,
then mix bicarb with water and a splash of vinegar - till watery paste and smear on,

leave for an hour - wash off with damp sponge, dry on radiator - works everytime

thanks guys, at the mo it now smells of lavender strongly - much better hopefully once that subsides it won't come back! lol.

DP was mortified and rather embaressed, it was a long list of things that went wrong yesterday thou, and ended up with me having a mega mood - i'm soooooo glad we don't usually live together!

It's good to remember that wee is sterile on emmission (unless you have a UTI) and is over 95% water. Just remember to get it dry as quickly as possible and I feel that's over half the battle

i'm trying hard to think good thoughts - still smells today.

have put yet another tub of bicarb on it & it's aired all day.

mum says I need to flip it now thou and do the other side?

have distilled vinegar as well can I use that with anything?

hv u checked carpet under the bed? I know from when dd wets the bed, it soaks all way thru mattress onto whatever is underneath! I've never been able to get rid of the smell completely from dd mattress , so am watching this with interest.

apparently it's now gone - woohoo it only took:-

3 pots of bi card,
one tub of lavender oil
bleach
softner
daz powder
and 2 pots of floral disinfectant.

also cleaned all the tops with the disinfectant stuff as well in case it lingered oh and did a shake n vac as well - mum said she can't smell it at all - oh and it aired for 4 days pretty much straight as well.
