Is it cos it's cheap - or do you need to leave it burning for ages - I only had it on for about 15mins this morning.

bugger - it smells nice close up - it's freshly washed linen - but only £1.50 from Matalan. Was going to get a couple for Xmas pressies - won't bother now!

The "fresh cotton" Yankee Candle is lovely for that clean smell but they are considerably more than £1.50. Though you can buy it in tea lights etc and they do last long time - don't need to burn it for long as it's got such a strong scent.

expatinscotland · 23/10/2008 14:56

try real beeswax ones. they have a very deilcate scent but it does last and they don't cost anywhere near Jo Malone or Diptyque, which are very nice indeed.

ahundredtimes · 23/10/2008 14:57

Sometimes they smell strongest after you've blown them out don't they?

I like the expensive ones too. Am trying to work out how DH might like to buy me a Diptyque - how you spell? - one as part of a 40th birthday present. He is, quite rightly, highly suspicious of expensive candles. FFS.

The FFS is me chanelling dh.

I love the Yankee Candle ones, i have them burning all the time I didn't know until recently though, that the smell takes about 10 mins to get going.......sad woman that i am i heard that on QVC

TracyK · 24/10/2008 09:47

mmm - I've had it burning for 20 mins now and it's starting to smell now - hooray. But I am in a fairly small room with it half a metre from me.

I love candlewick greens, especially the wax tarts they scent the whole house
