my washing machine has started playing up lately, its been going strong for 5
years (not bad since i only paid £190 for it and gets quite heavy use). it
randomly makes this horrendous noise when spinning, sounds like its about to
take off! but not on every wash. i have also noticed things don't come out as
clean as they used to and need washing again. i put a wash on the line
yesterday and when i got it in i noticed there are patches of white dots on a
few items, the dots are the same size as the holes in the drum, i washed them
again and scrubbed but the dotty patches wont come off? it also refuses to use
fabric conditioner, is there any thing i can do?

First of all run it with soda crystals in the drum to remove the grease from the drum and stick some in the fabric conditioner drawer too - that should help clear the pipe.

However it sounds like the cradle which supports the drum is loose - can be fixed for about £50 but if it's worn out, you may be better to just bite the bullet and get a new one.

Get a chap to have a look at it. Ours was a knackered motor. What about trying freecycle?

for a new machine, not a man

This happened with ours and it was the supports on the drum that had gone. The guy came to look at it and said he could fix it but it wasn't really worth it (the washing machine was 11yrs old).
We bought a new one and haven't looked back.

Second the use of soda Crystals - Amazing stuff! Pour it down the sinks and soak your tea-stained spoons whilst your at it.
