Polti steam cleaner

Has anyone got a polti steam cleaner? My mother-in-law (French) swears by hers and has offered to pay a contibution to one for us having seen our old cottage (dust, pet hair, mud, mould ) I'm afraid of wasting alot of money if it doesn't work. If you have got one, can you recommend it? Has anyone got a different (cheaper) brand they can recommend?

My MIL has one too and raves about it, but it does seem to spend most of it's time on a shelf in her utility room.

Hmm. How many hundreds of pounds do I want to have sitting on my shelf? But then, wouldn't clean carpets be lovely? And clean tiles, clean grouting, clean fridge ... I just don't know. Anyone else got any experience of these things?

I have one - somewhere - I guess that tells you how often its used.

But did it miraculously clean the house before it disappeared?

Would really love one of these but just can't afford it. So if anyone has any experiance of a cheaper version I would be interested to hear about it.
